It is time to open your eyes and make an informed choice!

•  It is a medically recognised fact that products you put on your skin are directly absorbed into your body
•  The average adult uses 9 personal care products daily, exposing us to 126 chemicals every day
•  One-third of all personal care products contain one or more ingredients classified as potential human carcinogens (this means cancer causing)
•  Over the last thirty years, only 9 of 10,500 ingredients used in personal care products have been banned or restricted, with 89% not evaluated for safety

A press release from the CANCER PREVENTION COALITION dated June 17, 2002 states "Cancer and health risk experts just concluded reviews that indicate mainstream cosmetics, and personal hygiene products pose the HIGHEST cancer risk exposure to the general public, even higher than smoking..... Cancer rates have essentially grown from 1 in 1,000, to 1 in 2 in the last 100 years. We are in an epidemic that is expected to get much, much worse. Everyone comes in contact with chemicals in food, water and air, but the biggest risk now appears to be absorption and inhalation of chemicals in hair care products, mouthwash, cosmetics, toothpaste, lotions, skin care products, suntan items, etc."

Of all the chemicals used in cosmetics, the National Institute of occupational Safety and Health has reported that nearly 900 are toxic.  Compared to the toxins found in our air, soil and waterways, cosmetics seems a trivial pursuit to many environmental health and consumer advocacy groups.  But many of the same poisons that pollute our environment, from dioxins to petrochemicals, can be found in the jars and bottles that line our bathroom shelves.

AND ESPECIALLY MICRODERMABRASION PRODUCTS

Many microdermabrasion treatments available for home use today utilise soft and un-fused corundum crystals which have little effect on microdermabrading the skin. To make matters worse they are often combined with cream bases that may contain harsh or toxic chemicals, and paraben preservatives.

Remember with microdermabrasion you are opening up skin pores and placing the ingredients in the formulation deep within the skin.  The microdermabrasion ingredients can be harsh, potentially toxic chemicals and preservatives, OR our Mystic Mountain Professional Pure formulation with pure, natural good-for-your-skin ingredients! The choice is yours!

WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE IN MYSTIC MOUNTAIN PROFESSIONAL PURE MICRODERMABRASION CREAM?

Ingredients: Purified acqueous extract of: Chamomile Flowers, Rose Hips, Black Walnut Leaves, White Willow Bark, Spring Horsetail Grass and Aloe Vera.  Corundum Crystals, Behentrimonium Methylsulfate (derived from Canola Oil), Stearyl Alcohol (plant derived), Cetyl Alcohol (plant derived), Glycol Stearate (plant derived), Rose Hip Seed Oil, Mango Butter, Safflower Oil, Phenoxyethanol (organic preservative), Capryly Glycol, Sorbic Acid, Grape Seed Oil, Vitamin E, Essential Oils of: Grapefruit, Sweet Orange, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Lemon, Lavender.  Caprylic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Sodium EDTA, natural Mango fragrance

BE WARY OF THE FOLLOWING INGREDIENTS USED IN MICRODERMABASION AND OTHER SKINCARE PRODUCTS:

• Fillers - fillers simply exfoliate, they lack the natural scientific advantage of corundum crystal used in Mystic Mountain Professional microdermabrasion.  Fillers can include, but are not limited to: magnesium oxide crystals, synthetic or un-fused aluminium oxide, sodium bicarbonate, pearl powder, silica, pumice

• Parabens - broad-spectrum preservatives derived from benzoic acid.  Used in 99% of cosmetic skincare products, including those labelled 'natural'.  May appear on skincare labels as “naturally-derived from tree bark/leaves”.  Commonly used parabens in skincare include Ethyl Paraben, Butyl Paraben, Methyl Paraben and Propyl Paraben.  Can cause allergic reactions.  Is a suspected endocrine disruptor, has been implicated as a potential cause of acne and premature aging of the skin, and is suspected as carcinogenic as it mimics estrogens.  Recent studies have found high concentrations of parabens present in breast cancer tumours.  Also research in Japan has raised further concerns - methyl parabens may cause the skin to age when it is exposed to ultraviolet rays (sunlight).  Please read our 'Poisonous Parabens?' page to learn more about parabens.

• Lanolin - can cause allergic reactions
• Mineral oil and petrolatum - clog pores by coating the skin, and impeding the release of toxins
• Octyl Palmitate, Isopropyl and Myristyl Myristate - clog the pores
• Paraffins - petroleum distillates, hydrocarbons – have a known toxic effect
• Propylene glycol - cheap and readily available, a component in anti-freeze

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) - when applied to human skin it has the effect of stripping off the oil layer and then irritating and eroding the skin, leaving it rough and pitted.

Judi Vance in her book "Beauty To Die For" writes studies have shown that:
1. "Sodium Lauryl Sulphate can cause cataracts in adults and delays the healing of wounds in the surface of the cornea."
2. "Sodium Lauryl Sulphate has a low molecular weight and so is easily absorbed by the body. It builds up in the heart, liver and brain and can cause major problems in these areas."
3. "Sodium Lauryl Sulphate causes skin to flake and to separate and causes roughness on the skin."
4. "Sodium Lauryl Sulphate causes dysfunction of the biological systems of the skin."
5. "Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is such a caustic cleanser that it actually corrodes the hair follicle and impairs the ability to grow hair."
6. "Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is routinely used in clinical studies deliberately to irritate the skin so that the effects of other substances can be tested." (Study cited by the Wall St Journal, 1st November 1998
